This year’s theme is 50’s horror movies, but it’s a change from the usual. The movie posters from that time have some fantastic poster artwork. The posters were usually painted for lithographs, sometimes photos were used and many times lots of geometric shapes and bright colors. This year we celebrate the classic 50’s horror movies. Movies like, It Came From Outer Space, Forbidden Planet, Tarantula, The Blob, and all time classic cheesy movie, Plan 9 From Outer Space.
Instead of trying to recreate the old movie posters, we made three new ones. We went with, A Space horror, “The town that gets attacked by a creature” horror and a beach horror movie. I tried to come up with ideas and names that were like the old movies, but different enough to make them my own. So, I present to you..

I started off with rough sketches to get an idea of what I wanted. The posters are meant to be shown together, but each of them stands alone. The rules (that I made up) had to be, 1. We must recognize each of us on the posters. 2. The artwork must be good, but not too good. 3. All the posters need to work together but have their own style, because I’m going to have them printed out and framed when they are completed. That was the mission. You decide if I accomplished that.
I got the posters printed out, I have not framed them yet. I’ll update the post with the framed ones on the wall, when that is complete.

As a bonus, we also made a trailer for Black Cat Fever. Done in black and white we bad special effects, cheesy dialogue and horrible acting, it’s sure to be an instant classic!
FYI…We might have stolen a few jokes from Airplane and Police Squad.
